Here Are The 8 Best Things to do in Xcaret Park For Fun Vacation Experiences
Uncover one of the best parks in Cancun for a day trip at Xcaret. Book a tour with Seasons Tours and get picked up from your resort.
Cancun is home to so many parks. There are water parks, theme parks, amusement parks, and eco-archaeological parks. But if you visit just one park during your Cancun vacation, which one should you choose? The one that is all those things wrapped into one, Xcaret Park.
How Far is Xcaret from Cancun?
The park isn’t actually located in Cancun, it’s located just south of Playa del Carmen, about an hour’s drive from Cancun. If you buy the tour that includes transportation, they’ll pick you up from Finest Playa Mujeres.
Xcaret celebrates Mexico’s vibrant history, traditions, and folklore. There is so much to do there that it’s hard to fit it all in on one day, but it’s possible. Keep reading to learn what to do in Xcaret and all the best attractions and activities that you won’t want to miss.

The 8 Best Activities in Xcaret Park
1. The Flying Men of Papantla
At various times throughout the day, the Voladores de Papantla, or "flying men”, perform an ancient Mesoamerican ritual ceremony. Five men dressed in colorful traditional costumes climb a 30-meter (98 feet, 5 inches) pole, and four of them leap into the air, spinning and descending slowly, attached only by a rope around their waists. The fifth member remains at the top of the pole and plays music. The ceremony is performed to ask the gods for rain during droughts and was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list in 2009.
2. Bridge to Paradise
Whatever you do, don’t miss taking a stroll through the Puente al Paraíso or “Bridge to Paradise”. It is a representation of a traditional Mexican cemetery in the spiral form of a conch shell. It is made up of seven levels, which symbolize the days of the week, 52 steps, which represent the weeks in a year, and 365 tombs, which represent the days of the year. It’s a nod to Mexico’s cheerful attitude towards death and its holiday that celebrates it, Día de Muertos. And whatever you do, don’t miss the little surprises underneath the spiral.
3. Mexican Rodeo
Have you ever been to a Mexican rodeo? Each afternoon at Xcaret, you can see handsome Mexican charros (cowboys or horsemen) perform impressive feats on Aztec horses of pure lineage. Escaramuzas (female jockeys) also deliver an exciting display riding sidesaddle in classic Adelita dresses. You can watch the Fiesta Charra from the stands or La Cocina Restaurant, the best buffet in Xcaret Park.

4. Underground Rivers
If it’s getting hot, maybe it’s time to swim in the cool, clear, fresh water of the underground rivers. There are three underground rivers in Xcaret: the Blue River, the Pre-Hispanic River, and the Manatee River, all of which flow into the Caribbean. They are about 16.4 ft below ground and have an average depth of 5 ft. Everyone must wear a life jacket, which makes it easy to float and admire the caves. Don’t worry, there are periodic exits, in case you want to finish your tour before it ends. If you don’t feel like getting wet, you can take a ride down the Rio del Paraiso on a raft.
5. Prehispanic Performances
Be transported into ancient pre-Hispanic times and witness a dance under a sacred Ceiba tree, considered a cosmic axis, connecting the sky, earth, and underworld. Feel the hypnotic rhythm of the drums and smell the burning copal, an incense used during ceremonies to carry prayers to the heavens and gods.
6. Coral Reef Aquarium
At the Coral Reef Aquarium, you can observe more than 150 marine species, including jellyfish, hard and soft corals, colorful fish, and seahorses. There are interactive zones where visitors can interact with stingrays and starfish. Advanced technology is used to accurately recreate natural conditions, providing a good environment for marine life. Not far from the aquarium, you can also see sea turtles of various ages, which are part of Xcaret’s sea turtle conservation program. Want to see more wildlife? You can find jaguars, monkeys, flamingos, and manatees in the park as well.

7. Children’s World
This is a special place in the park just for kids ages 6 to 11. There are water slides, tunnels, hanging bridges, climbing nets, obstacles, and labyrinths. For children under six years old, there’s a wading pool, a sandbox, and water jets. There are also cenotes of different depths to splash around in. Additionally, Children’s World has family bathrooms and dressing rooms, as well as a snack shop, and there are plenty of places for parents to relax, hang out, and watch all the fun.
8. Xcaret México Espectacular
Xcaret’s breathtaking night show, Xcaret Mexico Espectacular, is the perfect way to end your day at the park. It takes place in Gran Tlachco, a massive open-air theater, and features over 300 artists. The show portrays Mexico’s rich history and culture through magnificent historical reenactments, colorful folklore dances, and lively music. It begins with the pre-Columbian era and moves through the Conquest of Mexico, the Colonial Era, and the Revolution. It is truly a world-class, awe-inspiring production that’s full of delightful surprises.
Even More Things to do at Xcaret Park
And that’s not all there is to do and see at Xcaret! There’s also a small Mayan ruin, a traditional Mexican Hacienda, the Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a replica of a Mayan village, a butterfly pavilion, a scenic tower, an aviary, and yes, even more.
